NBE Second Graders Visit the Henry Doorly Zoo
by Paula Hines
We had a beautiful day at the zoo! The weather was perfect! The temperature was in the 70s....the kids were happy and healthy, parents were excited to spend time with their kiddos, and Mrs. Yount and Ms. Hines were all smiles!!! Of course....the animals were AWESOME!!!
The day started with a guided tour of the Desert Dome...We learned a lot about how animals "blend" into their environment. We learned about different types of camouflage! Students were animal and habitat experts...We've spent the last six weeks studying different animal groups (insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals), and five habitats (ocean, desert, rainforest, arctic, and woodland forest)! Our guide was COMPLETELY impressed with all of our knowledge!
After a picnic lunch we broke into small groups to explore the rest of the zoo...Students got to visit the Lied Jungle, the Aquarium, and The Kingdom of the Night exhibits.
We had a wonderful day! Students recognized many of the animals they had recently studied....What an AWESOME learning experience!!
A special thank you to all the parents who accompanied us on the field trip...you made the day extra-special!
