SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN
by Jim Havelka, Superintendent
School improvement planning is the basis for accreditation and staff development in Nebraska school districts. Below is a copy of North Bend Central Public Schools' School Improvement Plan for 2009-10.
NBC High School is accredited by the North Central Association of
Colleges and Secondary Schools based on its School Improvement
Plan. In 2009-10 NBC hosted a two-day visitation by
outside teachers and administrators who will examine our
implementation of our plan and determine our accreditation status.
We received fully accredited status in the team's final
report.
NBCPS SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN: 2009-10
Much of the work of the School Improvement Plan is carried out by our Faculty Committees. Here are the Faculty Committees for 2009-10:
**School Improvement
Planning (Brenda Petersen, chair). Following the North
Central accreditation visit in 2008-09, a new school improvement
cycle will begin this year. The Committee will be gathering
information on student achievement in order to develop new school
improvement goals.
**K-12 Reading/Language
Arts Curriculum Revision. (Caryn Ziettlow, chair). The
entire reading/language arts curriculum is scheduled for review and
revision this year. The curriculum revision process includes
aligning our curriculum to state standards, developing new
curriculum guides, and recommending the purchase of new textbooks
and materials.
**K-6 Response to
Intervention. (Caryn Ziettlow, chair). By 2012, Nebraska
schools must develop a Response to Intervention model to assist
students who have difficulty in learning and in identifying
students for Special Education services. This ongoing committee is
developing the NBCPS plan.
**High Ability Learners
(Cecilia Hall, chair). Activities include identifying high
ability students, working with teachers on differentiating
curriculum, and sponsoring student activities such as the post-high
school planning session for high school seniors.
**Technology (Dan
Watts, chair). This committee implements the district's technology
plan which includes such issues as Internet access, distance
learning opportunities, and other elements of technology.
**Learning
Climate. (Jim Dodge, chair). This committee annually
administers a Learning Climate Survey for students, parents, and
staff in Grades 3,6,8, and 11, and a Graduate Follow-Up Survey. The
results of last year's survey were shared with the Board of
Education in June and will be reviewed with teachers at our
pre-school meetings in August.
