BOARD GOALS
The NBCPS Board of Education holds an annual workshop in February to discuss challenges facing the school district and to draft goals for the upcoming year. This year the Board reviewed goal statements in March and April and adopted Board Goals in May.
BOARD OF EDUCATION GOALS: 2009-10
CHALLENGES: The North Bend Central Public Schools Board of Education has identified these challenges facing our community's schools:
(1) Maintaining a wide variety of elective curricular and
extracurricular activities for NBCPS students in a period of
declining enrollment.
(2) Providing college preparatory and vocational curricula that will ensure that students graduate with skills appropriate for the 21st Century Workforce.
(3) Recruiting, developing, and retaining high quality faculty and
support staff and transitioning to new staff as current staff
members reach retirement age.
(4) Ensuring that students develop high quality technology skills
and that technology is used to enhance instruction.
(5) Developing plans and the financial resources to renovate the
existing school facilities to get maximum effective use from
them.
(6) Maintaining equity and efficiency in school operations,
including appropriate class sizes and pupil-teacher ratios.
(7) Using financial resources responsibly and effectively to
maintain a high quality yet efficient school system.
(8) Providing appropriate educational experiences for all students
ranging from high ability learners to students with
disabilities.
(9) Meeting the needs of the community for high quality early
childhood education.
(10) Continuing to meet all state and federal quality
standards.
GOALS: In view of
these challenges, the Board has identified the following goals for
2009-10. The Board and staff will:
(1) Conduct the annual curriculum revision process which for the
2009-10 year includes a revision of the K-12 Reading/Language Arts
curriculum.
(2) Work to maintain or increase curricular and extracurricular
opportunities for students through such strategies such as
interactive distance learning, Internet-based courses, and sharing
with neighboring districts.
(3) Review and revise personnel policies in order to assist in
recruiting, developing, and retaining high quality faculty and
making the transition as current faculty members near traditional
retirement ages.
(4) Maintain high levels of technology availability and technology
instruction for students so that students are provided with 21st
century technology skills.
(5) Explore the need for additional early childhood education
services for both disabled and non-disabled students.
(6) Begin a new School Improvement Plan cycle in 2009-10.
