Parents Speak to Math Classes
by Leta Wiebold
"Why do I need to know this?"
"When will I ever use this?"
These are some of the questions fifth and sixth grade math students ask. Their math teacher, Mrs. Wiebold, tries to show her students how the math skills they are learning will be applied in real life situations.
To help students see how math is used in various careers Mrs. Wiebold invited parents to speak to her math classes. A barber, engineer, cosmetologist, travel agent, bookkeeper, nurse, and a family preservation specialist have visited the math classes. The students enjoyed learning about each career and were often surprised by the amount of math each person did.
We would like to thank the parents for taking the time to speak to the classes. If anyone would be willing to share a little information about their career and the ways they use math, please contact Mrs. Wiebold to set up a time. We would love to have you.
