Cell phone Policy Information

Dear NBC Parents, Guardians, and Students,

As we prepare for another exciting school year, we’re thrilled to welcome students back and look forward to a year filled with learning and growth. We deeply value the strong partnerships we share with families, which play a crucial role in our students’ success. Thank you for the ongoing support you provide.

We also want to inform you about an important update to our school policy regarding student cell phone and electronic device use. This update is in alignment with Legislative Bill 140, which requires schools to establish clear expectations in this area.

At NBC, our priority is to create a focused and respectful learning environment. Beginning this school year, student’s will follow these NBC Board of Education policy rules in regards to their cell phones and electronic devices such as smart watches, smart glasses, gaming counsels, etc.:

·       Before and After School: Students may use cell phones or electronic devices on school sidewalks and in common areas before and after school, as long as their use does not create a distraction or disruption and complies with all other school policies.

·       During the School Day:
Students may not use cell phones or electronic devices during the school day, including passing periods and lunch. Devices must remain in student lockers or secured in personal vehicles during school hours unless specifically required for curriculum purposes which will be prepared through the principal’s office.

·       Classrooms, Locker Rooms, and Restrooms:
Cell phones and electronic devices are not allowed in classrooms, locker rooms, or restrooms at any time unless part of approved instructional use.

·       Search of Devices:
By bringing a cell phone or other electronic communication device to school, students consent to a search of their device by school staff if staff determine that such a search is reasonable or necessary.

We ask that you have a conversation with your student about their options in regard to electronic devices prior to the start of the school year. We appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment. If you have any questions regarding this policy please contact the NBC office.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Brenda Petersen

NBC Principal
