Taking Action - Students in Ms. Morgan's English 11 classes began the school year by engaging in a unit of study about the Holocaust. Based on a survey before beginning the unit, most students had limited to zero knowledge about this tragic time in history. Students began by reading the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Next, the classes watched Schindler's List.
After learning about the extreme cruelty, violence, and sorrow of this time, it is easy to feel despair about humanity. It's important to study it and remember what has happened. It's also important to take action. Therefore, as a final response to this unit, students spent some time focusing on individuals and organizations that are currently taking action to preserve human dignity, rights, and life. Students then created social media posts to bring awareness to the causes they researched.
